Preparing for your family or Iconic Charleston Portrait - Heather Johnson Photography - Charleston, SC

I hope you’re excited about your upcoming outdoor or downtown Charleston portrait session or Isle of Palms, beach portrait  To ensure we capture the best possible photos, here are a few tips to help you prepare.

Weather:

Outdoor Portraits in Charleston, SC  there are things you may want to consider.   Outside portraits are often beautiful but there are factors that play into your experience of your portrait session.  The weather is often something to keep in mind that it rains in Charleston, sc and there are wind factors to consider as well.  If you do not want your hair blowing in the wind a studio session is a better option for you and your family and we also offer these sessions as well.

Tide:

This is important if you are doing a beach session, since we use off camera lighting for your session.  High tide is not an option during your beach session.  We will be sure to look out for this.  We will have to reschedule your portrait if it occurs on a high tide time if you scheduled it several months before.

Clothing:

Soft, neutral, or pastel colors work beautifully in a beach setting or outdoor portraits jeans, green, reds, coral colors are some of my favorites. Flowy fabrics can add a nice touch. Avoid busy patterns or logos that might distract from the natural scenery.

 Time and Light:

We will aim to shoot during the “golden hour,” or sunrise  hour 20 minutes before  sunrise and 45-60 minutes after, when the lighting is soft and flattering. Please arrive 20 -30 minutes early so we can make the most of this time. Our sessions are 1 hour before sunset or 1 hour after Sunrise.  We do not deviate from this time especially for beach session.

Footwear:

Wear loafer shoes, sandals .

Hair and Makeup:

A natural look is usually best for beach portraits, but feel free to style as you feel comfortable. Be prepared for some wind, so you may want to bring some hairpins or clips.  Professional makeup and hair services can add a nice touch to your portrait session.

Props:

If you have any personal items you’d like to include, such as hats, blankets, or special family items, feel free to bring them along.

 Relax and Have Fun:

The best photos come when you’re relaxed and enjoying yourself. Don’t worry about posing—I’ll guide you throughout the session!

If you have any questions or need further details, feel free to reach out. I’m looking forward to capturing some beautiful memories with you!
